Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) is the only independent association that represents all sectors of New Zealand's large and diverse tourism industry. We are vocal supporters of our industry, working to ensure tourism gets the recognition it deserves as a vital contributor to the country's economy and social health.

The Communications Team achieves high levels of internal and external engagement and dialogue to ensure TIA is always abreast of the issues, challenges and opportunities facing the tourism industry. Providing high quality communications leadership and support for the organisation and its members is central to team objectives.  We strive to be the benchmark of what quality communications looks like.  

About the role

Reporting to the Communications Manager, this is a varied and interesting role in a fun and passionate industry. You will work across a number of communications related areas including events and awards. Your focus will be to support TIA and its members by providing high quality and timely information.  Day to day you will: 

  • Create beautiful and accurate content for our website
  • Provide the communications support around our key events
  • Manage our social media presence
  • Communicate key information in an accurate and timely manner to our members and stakeholders
  • Support the wider Communications team with other aspects such as media enquiries
  • This Wellington-based role is ideally full-time but could also be part time at 30hrs per week for the right person.  

    About you 

    You will have previous experience as a Senior Communications Advisor and have a reputation for creating high quality content. As a natural self-starter, you will have a proactive approach and enjoy working in a collaborative team. You will likely describe yourself as outgoing, enthusiastic, and confident and will be comfortable engaging with staff and stakeholders at many levels. You will also have: 

  • At least 3yrs experience in communication related roles
  • Experience in managing a variety of communications channels
  • A high level of skill with social media communications
  • Experience in managing communications for events
  • An ability to manage multiple demands and prioritise these
  • A track record of innovation and new thinking
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Experience in the Tourism Industry and with Te Reo Māori would be a plus, and you may have other skills outside of Communications which can benefit TIA’s work.
