Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs.
The Asia Foundation started working in Timor-Leste in 1992 from its Jakarta office, and opened a full office in Timor-Leste in 2001. In Timor-Leste the Foundation focuses on three main components that are critical to the development of Timor-Leste: strengthening governance, empowering women and expanding economic opportunity.
To help foster economic opportunity the Foundation is working to build the non-oil economy through the tourism sector by advocating for evidence-based policy making, effective marketing, and the development of nature-based adventure tourism.
This assignment offers an exciting opportunity to support sustainable tourism by providing support to accommodation providers in Maubisse and working with Hotel Owners of Timor-Lorosae (HOTL) Association.
In this role you will help improve customer service and customer experience at hotels and guesthouses in Maubisse. As the ideal candidate you will have extensive experience training and developing both business and hospitality skills in the tourism industry. Your work will also help inform Dili HOTL members to promote Maubisse tourism activities and itineraries as part of marketing for Timor-Leste as a tourism destination.
VSA assignments provide a unique opportunity for professional development by sharing your skills to build thriving communities in the Pacific and beyond. Capacity building will be achieved through the development and delivery of hospitality training modules to various Maubisse Hotels and Guesthouses.
We are looking for a volunteer with:
- Bachelor Degree in Tourism, Hospitality and/or Business Development (or significant knowledge and experience in hospitality training and tourism business development)
- Extensive experience training and developing both business and hospitality skills in the tourism industry
- Experience providing training, mentoring and business development support to accommodation and/or tourism providers
- Experience developing marketing material, collateral and promotion strategies including, using social media for tourism
This is an assignment of up to 18 months based in Timor-Leste.
